Comparison between single port videolaparoscopy and miniceliotomy with snock hook ovariohysterectomy techniques in bitches Ciência Rural
Coutinho,Alexandre José; Gasser,Beatriz; Rodriguez,Mariana Garcia Kako; Uscategui,Ricardo Andres Ramirez; Santos,Victor José Correia; Tiosso,Caio de Faria; Barros,Felipe Farias Pereira da Câmara; Toniollo,Gilson Hélio.
ABSTRACT: In order to use and study minimally invasive techniques to reduce side effects of ovarian-hysterectomy (OHE) in bitches, the aim of this study was to compare time, surgical complications, pain and postoperative inflammatory response, caused by single port videolaparoscopic OHE and traditional miniceliotomy with snook hook. Twenty-four healthy bitches were randomly divided in two groups: videolaparoscopy (Video) and miniceliotomy (MiniLap). Surgical time and complications, pain, need for analgesic rescue, C-reactive protein concentration, glycaemia and voluntary food ingestion were evaluated during 24 hours following the procedure and compared statistically. Surgical time (38±7min), surgical complications (17%), postoperative pain intensity, need...

Energetic metabolism in fasting sheep: regularization of metabolic profile by treatment with oral glucose, with prior handling of gastric groove R. Bras. Zootec.
Martín-Alonso,María José; Escalera-Valente,Francisco; Cal-Pereyra,Luis G.; Benech,Alejandro; Alonso,María Pilar; González-Montaña,José Ramiro.
ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate a possible corrective measure against negative metabolic states, as occurs in the advanced stage of gestation in ewes, and that sometimes produces a disease called pregnancy toxaemia. In the present research, we found that the joint administration of i.v. lysine-vasopressin (0.08 IU/kg body weight, BW) and an oral glucose solution (50 g) produces an increase in blood glucose, which persists for some time (up to 6 h); therefore, it could be used in the treatment of pregnancy toxaemia. This therapy is based on the fact that lysine-vasopressin induces gastric groove closure in adult ruminants, enabling orally administered glucose to reach the abomasum directly, from where it rapidly passes into the...

Starch and fibre intake and glucose postprandial response of dogs Ciência Rural
Monti,Mariana; Palumbo,Guilherme Roberto; Pinto,Mariana Vieira de Paula; Putarov,Thaila Cristina; Loureiro,Bruna Agy; Gomes,Márcia de Oliveira Sampaio; Pereira,Gener Tadeu; Carciofi,Aulus Cavalieri.
ABSTRACT: Fibre has been studied to reduce the postprandial glucose response of dogs, but the results are inconsistent. Starch intake, however, was not properly considered in the published studies. The effects of starch and fibre intake on the postprandial glucose response were studied in non-obese adult dogs. Cellulose (CEL), carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), pea fibre (PE) and sugarcane fibre (SCF) were combined to form six diets with starch contents ranging from 33% to 42%: SCF+CEL and PE+CEL diets, both with high insoluble fibre (IF=22%) and low soluble fibre (SF=2.5%) content; SCF+CMC and PE+CMC diets with high SF (SF=4.5%; IF=19%) content; and CMC and CEL diets with low dietary fibre (14%) content. The diets were fed in two amounts, providing an intake...
